In The Dark (2011)
A young man's car breaks down while he's driving along a very dark road. He decides to wait in the car and sleep till morning. But despite being late at night and in the middle of nowhere, he soon realises he is not alone...
In The Dark is only 5 minutes long. There isn't much time to build an elaborate story, and instead it concentrates on scaring the wits out of its audience by building up tension. And it does a decent job of it.
There are a couple of minor distractions. The acting wasn't entirely convincing at the beginning (though it is pretty good by the end). And anyone who sleeps overnight in their car with the interior light floodlighting them, would seem to be asking for trouble if you ask me.
But these things aside, the suspense and creepy atmosphere are handled well, and yes I did nearly jump out of my chair at one point. If you can watch this while wearing headphones, you'll get the benefit of the sound, which is an essential part of it all. While it doesn't offer anything new, it's still a fun short film and worth spending a few minutes with.
