A Zombie Claymation (2011)
A young couple are having a quiet evening in a "shitty holiday cabin", when suddenly they are attacked by blood thirsty zombies. For the 3-minute duration of this short film, there is a surprising amount of strong gore on display. But what makes this gore unique, is it's all done in claymation!
Despite all that brightly coloured plasticine, A Zombie Claymation is certainly not for children. There are no cute inventors and clever dogs here. There is an element of cheese - not Wensleydale - and it's completely intentional. Director Lee Hardcastle's tongue is firmly in his cheek here, and he has a lot of fun at the zombie movie genre's expense.
There is a certain home-made feel to the sets and the vocal performances, which really adds to the anarchic charm. And there's a wicked streak of humour running throughout - not only in the visuals, but also in the script. The plot is simple, but still manages to add a little twist towards the end. Most importantly, this is three minutes of pure, mischievous fun.
A Zombie Claymation is available to watch for free on youtube, along with other animated gems from the same writer/director, such as The Evil Dead In 60 Seconds In Clay (2010) and Claycat's The Thing (2012).
